WP8 Implementation of Gender Equality Plans

WP8 aims to implement GEPs in all partner institutions in the light of the targets produced by core WPs 1-4.

Tasks

Task 8.1: A review of national legislations on gender equality in S&T (Task leader: Kiel UAS)

Once the GEPs are in place, their implementation is a legal obligation of public institutions. However, certain features in national laws may provide different scopes for the legal interpretation of relevant articles, sections and provisions of laws and as a result the possibilities for the implementation of a GEP. This task aims to achieve a common basis for GEPs, considering the differences in the consortium, by comparing the national legislations on gender equality in S&T and the stage of implementation of the existing GEPs in the partner institutions.

Task 8.2: Implementation of the GEPs in partner institutions (Task leader: GEOMAR)

This task aims to support the implementation of GEPs in partner institutions (and to put GEPs in place in those institutions that don’t have them) in the second half of the proposed Action.

GEP implementation will involve activities:

at the level of the organisations that will be delivering the required statistical data to the Action and take part in the execution of the assigned tasks; and

at the level of Baltic Gender that will be analysing the collected data to develop concrete targets, indicators and measures for reaching the set goals of the GEPs and to monitor the progress of implementation.

Task 8.3: Guideline for GEPs as a part of marine research proposals/projects (Task leader:SYKE

European marine science is largely driven by research conducted in projects, and therefore deploying GEPs into the research projects in practice is an important part of their implementation. Gender equality planning that is a complimentary part of many EU project proposals is not very well understood by many marine scientists; this is reflected in the quality of these plans in proposals submitted/ projects running. This task aims to produce a generic guideline for including GEPs as an integral part of marine research projects.

Task 8.4: Monitoring and evaluation of the progress of the GEPs in partner institutions (Task leader: GEOMAR)

GEPs are a tool to transform plans into instruments that can catalyse institutional changes. As a management tool, GEPs reflect, and are reflected in, changes in organisational practices. Monitoring of these changes will involve collecting assessment data both quantitatively (in the form of indicators, statistics) and qualitatively (in the form of feedback-sheets, interviews and questionnaires).
